Do you believe in your dreams?
So many things can stop us from fulfilling our dreams - time constraints, our past, fear of taking the first step, and a lack support.
Which are most likely to steal your time?
- I put off making decisions
- I don’t prioritise and organize my goals
- I can’t say 'no'
- I am often busy doing 'things' for others
- I find it hard to ask others to help or delegate tasks
- I rarely have time to think big picture stuff and plan
- I love talking and thinking about what I could be or do- but I somehow don’t get round to putting it into action.
Do you need to stop looking back?
Is your life being held back by the unfulfilled dreams of the past? You may have to go back a bit into your personal history to answer this. Are those dreams still possible? If not – give that dream a clean burial now. This doesn't mean there are no dreams left for you, rather that you stop believing that 'my life is ruined for ever because my parents pressured me into becoming a teacher when my heart was to go to stage school'.
What first?
If seeing your dream fulfilled could begin with something small, what stops you planting just a seed today? If the dream is a long journey, is there a first step you could take today? Not a hope, or a promise, but an actual step - make a phone call, book a course, take a decision…how can you get started? Is it fear of failure that stops you at least beginning to see your dream realized? It's true that once you do begin you will be exposed to the possibility of failure, but at least you will have begun. Franklin Roosevelt (USA President) once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Do you know a dream catcher?
Can you think of anyone who might be a 'dream catcher' for you? Remember the qualities you are looking for in this person: someone who will bring you down to earth when you are in 'delusional' mode, somebody wiser than you, but above all somebody who believes in you and your dream.
