Priorities: What matters most to You?
Give this simple 1-minute exercise a try.
What do you give the majority of your time and thought to?
Put in order the following list, starting at what consumes your time and priorities the most and then simply work your way down. You can always add some of your own! Be honest with yourself! This should give you a pretty clear idea of what takes up most of your energy and time.
Where do you put most of your efforts?
- House and home
- Working in a fulfilling job
- Relationship - partner/ spouse etc
- Building and maintaining friendships
- Family
- Appearance
- Your community - volunteering/ support
- Travel and adventure
- Working to pay the bills
- Sport, arts and leisure
What matters most to you?
Write a second list, and this time list the areas in order of what you think matters most.
If you only had a week, a month, a year on this planet, what would be at the top of your list? How would you prioritise the other areas?
Have a look at the lists side by side. Are you putting the most effort into what matters most?
If the two lists are a close match, then you probably are very content. If they’re very different, what does that mean for you?
Can you manage your time so that it reflects your priorities?
