  • Get to the doctors – if you catch it within 48 hours of the symptoms starting, there are effective prescription drugs available.
  • Sleep if you feel like it – let your body tell you when you need sleep, and make sure you listen to it.
  • Drink lots of water – at least 8 glasses a day. Stay hydrated. If you fancy a change, add lemon juice or dilute some fruit juice.
  • Take ibuprofen, asprin or paracetamol for fever, aches and pains.
  • Choose a cough syrup over the counter that suits your symptoms. Bear in mind that combination medicines might have ingredients that counteract each other.
  • If you have nausea or vomiting, avoid solid foods until you can hold down clear liquids.
  • When you start eating again, Chicken soup is actually a good choice! It’s easy to digest, and you can add some dry crackers too.
  • If the air is dry, use a humidifier or vaporiser. It will help to break up the mucus. Mmm, nice.
  • Drink tea with honey. It’s good for a sore throat.
