Better than Alright in Cardiff Bay
It’s a couple of weeks now since ‘Better than Alright’ took to the stage for the last night of the tour at ‘The Point’ in Cardiff Bay, but the responses are still rolling in…
“A very relaxed atmosphere”
"Cheers for the event, very important and often not talked about."
"The most influential thing in my life in the last 9 months, very key to the rest of my life, thanks"
If you weren’t there, you missed out. Here’s what went on:
Emma Coffey hosted an evening of live music, chat, and discussion. She talked about how we handle our cash, and prompted us to consider how in control of our money we are. As she reminded us that just by giving time to think about our finances, we were already the exception to the rule, we spent some time on a budget sheet, working out how much we spend each month.
Not what you’d expect on an evening out with your mates, but it really was enlightening! I for one was inspired to open up my bank statements and find out what’s really going on with my cash.
Julia Harris and her guitar entertained us with songs that got heads nodding along, not just to the rhythm but to the lyrics as well. She just fit right in to the evening, and her funky tunes will not be soon forgotten.
Emma chatted with us about confidence- where we lose it, why we need it, how we can hold on to it… in the context of facing our finances and thinking about our careers, it was very apt.
David Oliver gave a cracking talk on work, careers, dreams and ambitions. I think everyone in the room went home inspired to see their work positively, and to chase the things they really want in their career.
He and Emma also did a great job answering questions on the floor on topics like handling criticism and career expectations.
The talks were insightful, honest and thought-provoking, including real practical advice for common 20-30 something dilemmas. All in all a great event, much food for thought, and the sweets were yummy too!
