Best ways to spend a pound

Rating:

Is your wallet feeling a bit light this month? Make your small change stretch further –use a quid to brighten up your day.

One pound coin

• Treat yourself to a £1 mix-up (One hundred 1p sweets should keep you going for a while)

•Go wild in Poundland and take your pick of whatever you fancy

• Have a tea break – buy a pint of milk and supermarket own brand tea bags and make a cuppa for everyone

• Go on a bus trip. Megabus offer seats all over the place for about £1

• Visit a museum – they’re free! But you could put £1 in the donation box

• Download your favourite song off the internet

• Buy a good book from a local charity shop and read to your heart’s content

• Get your five-a-day! Buy fresh fruit in season and include frozen and canned veg to keep your healthy food budget under £1.

• Keep yourself informed – buy a newspaper. (From June, The Times Online will cost £1. But it’s more difficult to use the online version to line a litter tray, or clean your boots on afterwards.)

• Make someone smile – buy them a surprise bar of chocolate or a little cake and measure how big their smile gets
