How 2 make Easter special
If you have young children, you’ll be thinking about how you ‘do’ Easter; which family traditions you will create, or which ones you might carry over from your own childhood. We’ve gathered a few creative ideas to help you celebrate Easter with your little ones.
Easter egg hunt
My family is huge, so my mum would always hide big chocolate eggs around the garden. It was a race to find your egg so you could start eating it before everyone else! Even though we’re all in our twenties now, I’m still holding out hope for a repeat this weekend. If there are only a few of you, make the hunt more elaborate with clues. It’s best to aim for 6-8 clues, which send the kids all over the house and garden before they reach their hidden store of eggs.
Decorating eggs
There are loads of fun ways to do this, most of which are suitable for little ones. To create marbled eggs…
- Mix a tablespoon each of oil, (olive or vegetable is fine) food colouring and vinegar in a small bowl.
- Add enough water to make it deep enough to cover an egg, then swirl it together and quickly dip the egg into the mixture.
- Lightly pat the egg dry with a paper towel.
- Create another mix using a different colour, and dip the egg again. You can layer the colours as much as you like.
Alternatively, use some washable paints and a sponge to create a patterned egg.
Food and Family
The long weekend over Easter is a great opportunity to get together with family. And there’s nothing better than good food to make it a special day! Hot Cross buns are traditionally a Good Friday food, but they also offer an alternative to chocolate on Easter day. And whatever meal you choose, be it a roast, fish or something altogether different, you can add a touch of celebration with a specially laid table and an Easter decoration.
