A bit of balance.

I've been asked to provide a bit of balance to this article about women and dating. More specifically, about how some (empahsis some) women are waiting for a mythical white knight to ride up and whisk them away.

How can I balance this up a bit? Some men have warped views of femininity? Yeah, okay. Some men are blatantly sexist? Also true. But I think a difference between men and women is that generally men don't sit around thinking 'someday my princess will come'. At least in my experience.

I like the comment that "if there are women out there who want to wait for Mr Perfect then let them. It's their problem not yours." Is it? Well, if they get profoundly depressed by their circumstances, and they're my friend, and they tell me about it, and they are desperately lonely, but are hamstrung in their attempts to form relationships by a Hollywood-fed fantasy - then it becomes my problem.

And can I make one final point. Getting this article up on the site was a huge hassle. I had a big email to-and-fro with Emma about it. And then 'bear' comments "I like to think I'm not that deluded". I'm not saying you are. Don't read it as a criticism of every woman. It's just  some of my female friends are trapped by this idea that 'Mr Perfect' will one day turn up.

Pointing out the worrying aspect of this belief isn't gender one-upmanship. It's about encouraging people to let go of the daydream and embrace reality. And, yeah, that goes for boys too. Of course it does.
