Flirty @ thirty (or so)
I'm a bit of a flirt, despite being happily married for a looooong time.
The other day I was challenged by a friend of mine who is quite adamant that flirting is wrong if you have no intention of taking it any further. Her comment - and quite rightly - is that flirting sends out the wrong signals. If you're not 'interested' or 'available', then you shouldn't pretend you are.
Okay, I agree with that. But there's flirting and there's flirting, isn't there? At some level most 'flirting' is just suggestive joking. Of course that might be wrong too, but I like it when people flirt with me - it makes me feel better about myself. And presumably it makes other people feel better about themselves too if I show them 'interest', even though we both know it's not going to lead anywhere. And as long as we both know that, then no harm done, right?
Or am I wrong?
(And interestingly, what do you do about inappropriate flirting?)
