It aint easy being easy
I don’t think I’m a very demanding person (although you really ought to ask my better half Kath about that…). I often find myself saying ‘I don’t care where we eat…’ or ‘I really don’t mind what we do…’
And the thing is I honestly don’t. But have you ever had to make a decision with someone who says ‘I don’t mind…’ but then objects to every suggestion you make. A conversation like this usually ensues:
“Where would you like to go for a meal?”
“I don’t mind.”
“Chinese?”
“I don’t feel like Chinese…”
“Pizza?”
“Mmm, not really in the mood for pizza…”
“Chips from the chippy?”
“No, I don’t want chips…”
“Well, where do you want to eat then?”
“I don’t mind!”
One solution to such annoying indecisiveness is to decide where you want to go and say ‘This is where we’re going - I’ve booked a table for 7.’ Then although they’ll moan, at least they won’t lie about not minding where you go even though they do mind.
So it seems that even if you don’t care about things, you have to make a decision because the people who do care don’t want to be the person who makes the decision. It’s strange, but that’s how life is.
