3 tips for dealing with S.A.D.
S.A.D. can be summed up as feeling down/depressed because it's wintertime. As a recovering depressive, here's how I get through it.
1) I spend time with other people. Try and find a way to spend time usefully with people so that the gloomy thoughts don't sneak in. For example, offer lifts to co-workers, so you don't have to travel alone. That's half an hour less empty headspace a day.
2) I focus on something else. I got a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. I will master Wii Baseball even if it takes me five hours a night. (Also works with Guitar Hero and games of that ilk)
3) I try to live life to the max. Start saying 'yes' when people ask you for favours. Take on responsibility for organising the work social. Become a mentor to a young person. Help out in a charity/social enterprise. Campaign for (or against) something. Go on a date (with your other half if you're married). Accept every dinner invitation. Challenge people to a game of pool at lunchtime. Remember, you're great company - don't deny people the immense privilege of spending time with you.
