Blank Holiday Monday
I’m not sure what happened to the weather. We had brilliant sunshine on the Saturday and Sunday and then grey, muggy, overcast skies and humidity on the Bank Holiday.
On the plus side, it meant I didn’t feel so bad about staying in bed late. After all, if the weather’s bad, you aren’t missing anything. When you get up from a nice lie-in and find the world is warm and bright, you do feel like you’ve missed out on something – and all the benefit of those extra hours’ sleep evaporates in annoyance at not making the most of the day.
But a ‘blank holiday’ is sometimes what I need. Life happens so fast, it’s good to have some downtime. A day off from everything. No expectations. No obligations. No appointments. No plans. Mooch around the house. Play some PlayStation. Catch up on Facebook conversations. Sort out the sock drawer. Finish the book you’ve been ‘reading’ for months. Hoover the car, the couch, the cat. All those sorts of things – take the time to do the things that normally you’re just too busy to do.
Sadly my blank holiday was over far too soon. I could really use another one.
