Come back stronger
I’m aching in most of my joints because I’ve just spent a week camping. I’m not a very outdoorsy person. Frankly, I like my comfort.
But I did do myself proud by helping a neighbouring camper fix their tent. They had a broken pole, which we sorted with Duck Tape and a metal tube as a ‘splint’, and also a snapped clip which I jury-rigged a replacement for using a loop of spare cord. I felt well proud with my handiwork.
Interestingly, that ‘fix’ actually meant that part of the pole was stronger than before. We couldn’t get the Duck Tape off at the end of the week, so it had to get packed away with the splint still attached. Duck Tape is permanent, it seems.
It made me think about how many times the patch up can make things much stronger than they were to start with. It’s true in relationships and friendships. If you can repair what’s broken it can sometimes end up being far, far stronger. (And if you could Duck Tape relationships they would be good for life!)
