One twelfth the way through
I’m convinced that as I get older time is speeding up. It seems unbelievable that today is the 1st of February – already we are one month the way through 2010.
Of course, it’s not time that’s speeding up – it’s the pace of life. Back when I was 19, I didn’t have a full-time job, I had lots of free time, and sometimes that free time dragged. I remember long conversations – often going on for hours – with my friends as we made a half pint of beer last as long as humanly possible.
I don’t get that any more. The longest conversations I get are on car journeys to see family or friends in a different town. I have so many ‘let’s go out for a drink sometime’ promises and plans hanging over my head I’d need a couple of months off from work to fulfil them all.
People talk about carving out time. But that’s easier said than done. In the meantime the first month of 2010 has flown by.
Hopefully I can find a way soon of slowing them down by finding a way for me to slow down.
