What Superhero are you?
I think it’s generally true that men spend more time day-dreaming about having superhero powers than women do.
One power I’d really like to have is ‘prescience’. Then, for example, I would know if something I was just about to embark on was a waste of time. When I was a teenager I took a bus trip all the way to Rochdale to see my team play. (It’s the kind of thing you do as a teenager.) Just as we arrived at the ground we heard on the radio that the game was called off.
We weren’t a busload of happy bunnies as we travelled home. If I’d known the game was going to be called off, I would have saved myself six fruitless hours on a bus. (Fair play, though, I would also have missed the ‘rest stop’ in a lay-by when upwards of twenty blokes peed into the adjoining canal en masse.)
Another power I’d like is ‘instant rewind’. That would mean that as soon as I realised I’d said something stupid I could ‘rewind’ time to just before I said the stupid thing and say something more intelligent, caring, thoughtful, kind, or whatever. That would have saved me an awful lot of trouble in school, work, at home, just about anywhere really.
Of course, like everyone, I’m not superhuman, I’m just human. But a boy can dream, can’t he?
