Wedded bliss?

So… the time is near… I’ll be married in 9 days. No more Viccy Biccy. The next time I write a blog I’ll be a suddenly-sophisticated Mrs Victoria Biscuit. Well, a Mrs at least!

I’ve had so many conversations lately with friends who are either marriage counsellors or seasoned spouses, and my head is full of marriage-related information. Some of it’s quite scary… like the divorce rate, for example! But I’m so glad to have friends who will talk to me honestly about the realities of life and the hard work it takes to keep a marriage strong through the years.

So what have I learnt from all my wise, experienced friends? Three things stand out:

- Love is a decision we make each day.

- Talk, talk, talk… and listen to each other. Keep communication open and honest.

- Expect life to be life. It’s tempting to see marriage as the happy-ever-after, but life will throw at you whatever it will, and you’ll have to work hard to stick together through it all.

So there we go. Armed with a bagful of good advice, a grip on reality, a bellyful of nerves, and a commitment to make it work, I’m heading off towards matrimony. See you on the other side!
