It's bonfire night!

November the 5th is a highlight in my year. Despite being a ‘grown up’, I can’t resist running to the window whenever I hear a firework going off. My friends would say that my feet twich when I try to control the urge.

I always thought of bonfire night as the beginning of winter, because it tends to be the first night in the year when the full gear comes out… coat, hat, scarf and gloves. You see little ones all wrapped up like Boo from 'Monsters Inc.' struggling to move a limb.  Sparklers are my favourite. I just turn into a big kid, or perhaps more accurately, I stop pretending to be a responsible adult. Lights, whistles, bangs and fire are FUN.

I’ve recently moved to a new area, and having tracked down the local fireworks display, I intend on introducing myself to the neighbourhood as a squealing, jumping, sparkler-wielding adult who thinks she is still eight years old. I don’t think I’ll be invited round for tea any time soon.

So tonight, remember to be safe: don't put a firework in your mouth or a close relative on top of the bonfire. Forget about the stresses of work, light up a sparkler, and have fun!
