Willpower
Today is the first day of Lent. For thousands of people across the country, that means no more chocolate for six weeks. I’m a big fan of chocolate. I’m not a big fan of avoiding things that I like. So it’s not surprising that I have never (successfully) given up chocolate for Lent. Or alcohol. Or biscuits. Or anything, really. I guess I could do with a bit more willpower!
Wikipedia defines willpower as: inner firmness, decisiveness, determination, resolution and persistence.
Those are all qualities I’d like to have. I gave up my new year’s resolutions after less than a week. I am very unfit, and I had resolved to do sit-ups every day. It didn’t last. So I’m taking today as a second chance. If I can keep it going through Lent, who knows what I’m capable of?
They say it takes six weeks to form a habit, so Lent is a great opportunity to develop a good habit or break a bad one. What are you giving up for lent? Or are you trying to break a habit? Share your willpower success stories or discipline disasters on the forums.
