Home for Easter
It’s Easter this weekend. Hurray! For you, that could mean chocolate overload. It could mean church traditions. You might find yourself creating flowery bonnets with small children. But for most of us, Easter weekend involves meeting up with family.
Family relationships are a strange and wonderful thing. For some, Easter can be a great chance to enjoy each other’s company. For others, every holiday seems to bring the same excruciating weekend of pretending that we like to be around people who we would rather ignore!
I was speaking to a friend recently about the constant process of re-defining relationships with parents. Hopefully, we don’t scream at our parents like we did as teenagers. But we also no longer look at them with childlike eyes, full of wonder and admiration. As grown up children, visiting ‘home’ can become a bizarre experience. It sometimes seems like you step into a world where nothing ever changes except you.
Of course, some things will never change, like my love of chocolate. I’m no longer her ‘little girl’, but I still want to join in with my mum’s Easter egg hunt in the garden!
