Bye bye little car

Today, Mr. RAC towed away my car, never to be driven again. I had been expecting it to die soon, and it seems the gearbox was the last straw. When I broke down on the way to work, I realised how dependent I had become on having my own car. I suppose I took it for granted, but now I count myself lucky to have had the luxury of independence. Simply owning a car, apparently, is the privilege of just 7% of the world’s population. That gave my pity party some perspective!

So this weekend, I’ll be getting a taxi to the train station, and a train to the used car garage, where I’ll pretend I know what I’m talking about and hopefully not get ripped off. I’ve never bought from a garage before, so I’m taking all the advice I can get. I’ll go online to check it’s not been stolen or written off and patched up for re-sale. And of course, I’ll be paying close attention to Kev Kennedy’s ‘How 2 buy a motor’.  After that, I’ll check out his new advice in ‘How 2 run your motor’, and hopefully I’ll have better luck with cars this time around!
