skint

So, Christmas presents have all been bought... leaving me skint. (If you're having trouble thinking of ideas and your bank balance looks like mine, read this for some great advice!)

Trouble is, January sales are coming up! It's a vicious cycle of spending money to save money.

I know there are things that I will need to buy over the next 6 months. I know that it makes sense to get them in the sales at half the price. But I also know that after Christmas I'm more broke than usual. I guess it's the same for everybody.

My brain does a funny thing in sales. I'll pass by a really nice jumper for £10 because it's surrounded by £5 price tags. I'll then pick up three tops for £3 each - I won't like them, they might not even fit me, but I'll get them because I think it's a bargain. This leaves me with a few items of clothing that I wear all the time, and a drawerful of cheap things that stay in the drawer. Same goes for CD's I never listen to, DVD's I give away, and novelty gloves that don't even remember picking up.

This time, I think I'll just hit the shops with a mantra running through my head: 'Not what I want, just what I need.' In fact, I should probably be doing that every time I go into town.
