Thoughts on getting older

Last weekend I celebrated my friend’s 25th birthday. In her card I made sure to mention that she is now a quarter of a century old, and that I am always a few months younger than her. I’m nice like that! Another friend of mine turned 30 last week, and for other people I know, the big 3-0 is just around the corner. Many of my closest friends are in their 30s. In fact, just today, I was laughing at my 30-something friends playing with a Nerf gun! It must be true: boys will always be boys.

In some ways, nothing changes when you hit 30, and you wake up the next day feeling exactly the same. But it’s a milestone. Is it a mark of achievement, maturity and responsibility, or is it just an age? For some, it’s a scary occasion. For women, it often seems to amplify the sound of the biological clock ticking on. Many find it stressful, believing that they should have done more, or become more, by now. Others take it as an opportunity to reflect on their achievements and their situation in life.

What do you think? Looking at Life has created a brand new survey to find out what you think about turning 30. Whether you’re a mere 20-something or a veteran of the 30s, take part in the survey and let us know your views.
